May I take your whole order?

We have a plan for dinner: appetizer and then entrees.

We tell the waitress we’d like the veggie sampler plate.

“Is that all?”

“No, we’re still deciding what we want for our entrees.”

“I have to put it all in together,” she says.

“Really?”

“Yes.”

“Hmm. Because I’ve done this before and…”

“No,” the waitress says. “I have to put it in together, or I get in trouble.”

“Ok.”

A brief impasse.

“Come back in a few minutes then.”

“Ok fine,” the waitress says. “I’ll put in the appetizer first.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

“Because we don’t want you to get in trouble.”

“It’ll be fine.”

As it turns out, it is better than fine; it is delicious.
