About me

10 Facts About Me

  1. I write this blog, which is (mostly) an ongoing collection of short-form nonfiction, or if you prefer, slice of life humor.
  2. I am also a writer of fiction, essays, journalism, and “stuff.” (I share that material here too).
  3. Most of my journalism has focused on advertising, porn, and law; there’s more overlap than you might think.
  4. I live in the San Fernando Valley, a magical land of strip malls, fro-yo, simmering discontent, and mild delusions.
  5. I was born too late to properly claim the disillusionment of Generation X and too early to give a crap about millennials.
  6. I have visited more than 30 countries, but faced tear gas attacks in only two of them. Looking at you, Korea and Greece!
  7. I am happily married to Christina “Ferg Alert” Ferguson, who is the best thing that ever happened to me.
  8. I always have time to look at photos of monkeys.
  9. Humans fascinate me.

just read your “Being Jew-ish” article, what a pleasure to read!!
as a non-Jew living in Israel with a daughter who did the whole “super jew’ thing, i could really empathise !!

Happy Christmas if you do, and Hag Sameach if you don’t 🙂

Just read your story about your father’s funeral and had to read more. I love your style, especially because there’s great heart in it.

Thank you so much for sharing the story about your dad. I came away feeling I somehow knew him, knew your family.

I just found your piece “My Dad oversaw sound at the Super Bowl” through reddit.com/r/livesound. Your writing elicited a deep emotional response within me. Like you, when I was growing up, my father repeatedly told me to never take no for an answer. Thank you for being brave enough to put such an intimate story to paper. I’m sharing it with all my “noise boys” who push to get it right with the intention that audiences will continue to get lost in the moment. Blessings to you and yours!
